Kaplan K12 has developed the following supplemental, research-based programs to help educators target gaps in student skills. All of these programs build core student skills by providing scaffolded instruction and employing proven educational theory that helps all students learn.
Essential Skills
Kaplan K12's Essential Skills programs consist of teacher-led print-based materials for elementary, middle, and high school students that build critical math and English language arts skills. Two levels of instruction allow teachers to differentiate instruction as they remediate, review, or enrich standards within their core curriculum.
LessonBank allows teachers to quickly and easily locate specific high-quality English language arts and math lesson plans aligned to their specific state standards for grades 3-12. Teachers can use their web browser to search for and print over 2,000 lesson plans, each targeted at three levels of student understanding.
For students in grades 2-12 struggling to perform at grade level, Kaplan Reading Empowerment and Kaplan Math Empowerment are powerful intervention programs.
AutoSkill®-developed software, supplemental literature, and Kaplan K12 professional development ensure that students build key reading and math skills, including the five literacy areas recommended by the National Reading Panel and ten key math strands aligned to NCTM standards.
Based on the popular Workshop Model pioneered at Columbia University Teachers College, Kaplan K12 developed A Reader's Workshop Approach to Test Readiness
for elementary school that provides leveled texts, strategies, and ample teacher resources to ensure students can read and interpret assessments to score their best on test day. The differentiated instruction and strategies within the program help students read in the test genre and achieve reading proficiency.
Study Skills develops the study habits and approaches essential for success in secondary school, such as planning, organization, and making effective use of available resources. The program covers a range of high-interest topics across the curriculum, and is presented in a graphical magazine-like format. These units of study may be incorporated into standard curriculum or used as a basis for after-school programs.
