Essential Skills: Essay is a research-based instructional program that teaches the essential essay skills students need for success—how to write clear coherent essays, edit their own and others' texts, and answer essay-based questions. Each unit provides a wide range of questions and prompts so that students are prepared to handle many kinds of essay assessments.

Engaging Step-by-Step Method

The program provides students with an explicit, step-by-step method of learning essay-writing skills using a "skeleton" metaphor to help students remember the essential elements of the essay.

Correlated to State Standards

Essential Skills: Essay is correlated to state standards, and helps students build the skills and confidence necessary to succeed on classroom assignments and high-stakes exams.

In-Depth Teacher's Edition

Useful teacher's notes accompany every student page and lead teachers step-by-step through instructional delivery.

Program Flexibility

Each unit can be delivered in a single hour-long session, or in 40-minute instructional sessions accompanied by 20-minute independent assignments.
